Located on the dry, leeward side of the Big Island, Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha is a ~15 minute drive from Kona International Airport is located right in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona. Its central location provides immediate access to many local shops, restaurants, and community events. During our stay, we were able to attend both the annual Lighted Boat Parade and the Kailua-Kona Christmas Parade the following week. The hotel serves as a great base for exploring other parts of the island, given its easy access to major roads. It also occupies a site of considerable cultural significance. The property is located at Kamakahonu, where King Kamehameha I spent his final years. The main floor includes a gallery space showcasing work by Herb that delighted Hawaiian history, identity, and culture. The hotel also offers cultural programming, including informational tours, craft activities, and demonstrations of an imu, a traditional Hawaiian underground oven on luau days. The in-house restaurant (Billfish) was excellent and we spent several days eating poke nachos on the patio facing the beach. The main restaurant (Honu's) is a bit pricey, but we loved trying the local restaurants and markets around the island. I had a great time with my family here and we are stoked to come back one day! Hopefully soon! We were thankful to embrace the aloha and give our thanks and respect for the land and its people.

While planning our first trip to the Big Island, I was deciding between two hotels in Kailua-Kona for my husband and I. After reading about some issues at the other hotel, and after our stellar experience here, I'm so glad we chose to stay at Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, from the front desk at check-in, to housekeeping in the hallways, to the pool and restaurant areas, and everywhere else around the property. A welcome drink was included, which was just okay tbh, but the seating availability and, more importantly, the view from the poolside bar/restaurant were lovely. Being close to the beach, with a distant view of the luau, made it an enjoyable place. The hotel was also decorated for the holidays and I loved the local figures on the tree as well as the holiday marketplace that featured local goods. We did not spend any time at the pool since it always seemed packed, but we more than made up for it with a visit or two to Ululani Shave Ice during our stay. The room itself was comfortable and met our needs for a few days, with toiletries, desk, couch, safe, etc. We also never had any trouble finding parking in the self-parking lot. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and found this hotel to be the perfect way to start our Big Island trip.

Arrived on the island very late, and needed a good hotel room with kid friendly amenities. This hotel checks ALL the boxes, and is reasonably priced or via Marriott points. The staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable to the local community and gave very good recommendations on where to eat, shop, etc. There are laundry facilities on site, and a business center. The pool area is fabulous and the all you can eat breakfast buffet is a must experience. Rooms were clean, well stocked and comfortable.

We stayed at the King Kamehameha Courtyard for a week in an oceanfront room, and overall we had a wonderful experience. We were definitely a little wary going into our stay because of some of the reviews, but we’re so glad we didn’t let that stop us. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Having the beach right in front of the hotel with easy access was a huge plus, and parking was very easy, which we appreciated. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, and the balcony was a great place to sit and relax during the day. We also loved how convenient it was to have the ABC store, coffee shop, and shaved ice shop downstairs. The hotel’s central location made it easy to walk to the downtown area, restaurants, and shops. There were a few minor things we felt could be improved. Our door slammed every time it was opened or closed, which made us feel bad for nearby guests. The bathroom fan was a bit loud and couldn’t be turned off—we stopped noticing it after a couple of days, but it could be an issue for anyone who’s noise-sensitive. Room cleanliness was overall good, though there were a few dusty spots that could have used a deeper clean. Also, during busier times of the day, the front desk was sometimes staffed by only one person, which led to waiting in line. That said, none of these issues took away from our overall experience. We had a great stay and would absolutely come back again. Don’t let the bad reviews scare you—our experience was very positive.

Our stay at Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel was overall a pleasant experience and a solid choice for the area. The outside property and resort grounds were very nice and also had a nice historical background to it. The pool was solid and the pier connected to the hotel was a great spot to watch the sunset. The resort beach was convenient but only average. The rooms were quite small and felt overused, though they did not feel old. The property was well maintained, and the inside of the hotel was nicely kept. Overall, while the rooms and beach had some limitations, the well cared for property, pool, and scenic pier made it a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

I was not able to reach to anyone over the phone prior to check in but once I got to the property, the service was fine except you need to wait for everything. No clear direction to the gym, no one at the reception or anywhere in the lobby in the early morning. Beach amenity service was excellent.

This Location- Marriott King Kamehameha Resort, is our favorite Hawaiian vacation spot. Mainly because of the local knowledgeable staff that have given direction to make our visits extra special. Much Thanks to Mr. Alika Sing. Alika - you remembered our names like you did with many others, just helped make our short that much more comfortable. Thank you

Had a amazing experience here has beautiful views of the ocean and mountain and its own private beach. Also attended the Luau in the evening and it was a unforgettable experience of Hawaiian/Polynesian culture dancing and food! Would highly recommend it to my fellow Canadians if you are looking to get away from the dreary cold weather. Was sunny for our whole week stay as well.
